The artist

Katherine M.A.

A professional painter with a Master of Arts degree, trained in the multi-layer oil technique used by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt.

During her Master of Arts studies, Katherine explored and practised the painting techniques of the great masters, from Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century to the modern impressionists. She can paint in almost any style, but for portraits she chooses the multi-layered oil technique.

Perfected by Leonardo and Rembrandt, the method builds a painting from many semi-transparent coats of paint. It gives a level of detail and precision that suits portraiture, catching the small things that make a face, or a dog, recognisable.

Alongside her own painting, Katherine specialises in painting restoration and conservation.
